I stayed here for a month while I was in New Orleans for work, and it was a great place. Neighborhood is safe, a lot to do in the area, and the place was exactly the way it was listed. No issues with anything being dirty, broken, or out of place. Landlord is very nice as well, so if you need a quick place to stay, or even something longer, this is definitely a good spot!
We loved our stay at Gretchen's place in the Bywater SO much we ended up staying for 7 months! We came to New Orleans for a short-term job in January, 2013, and found very few options for places to stay. We had originally planned to stay for a few months and then look around some more once the madness of Mardi Gras was over and more places were available. We were unfamiliar with the Bywater area and weren't sure what to expect. We TOTALLY lucked out! The Bywater is a quiet, artsy neighborhood with really excellent restaurants and nightlife within walking distance. We were also biking distance from the French Quarter (which is the perfect distance if you are going to be in New Orleans for longer than a weekend). Right off the bat Gretchen made us feel welcome and comfortable. She was the perfect host--always around when we needed her and very respectful of our privacy when we didn't. We were there for long enough that there were the inevitable minor issues with a couple of the appliances that Gretchen dealt with immediately. The house was exactly as described and as seen in the photos. We loved the unobtrusive updates that made the house feel clean and modern while still preserving all the original charm of the historic New Orleans shotgun style. The one thing that doens't come across in the photos is how tall the ceilings are. We live part-time in a basement apartment in NYC and it was a nice change of pace to have such gorgeous, tall windows and ceilings. We already miss our sweet house in the Bywater and our amazing host Gretchen!
